My photographic style continues to evolve, much like a species adapts to it's ecosystem in the natural world. I strive to capture nature in my own unique vision, often getting as frame-filling as my equipment will safely allow for me and my subjects. My passion for the natural world, it's inhabitants, and the impacts of humankind on these things knows no boundaries. I love nature photography as a way to learn more about the natural world, but also as a powerful and irreplaceable tool for conservation. My career as a wildlife ecologist is a perfect compliment to my artistic side, and when the two disciplines merge together, the feeling is nothing short of exhilirating. I feel like scientific knowledge serves to enhance my creative vision with a camera.
Knowledge I have of animal behavior and light, can allow me to predict where I need to be and when I need to be there to get the shot I envision. The essence of light, the quality of the light, the very ability of light to create something captivating out of the ordinary is paramount to being a successful photographer. When the action happens you have to be there, and be there in the right light at the right time!
I am currently embarking on the most exciting chapter of my scientific life, working as an environmental consultant for Geo-Marine Inc. in Hampton, Virginia. I will be adding and updating an exciting new area to my website devoted to my ongoing research and projects as well as things I have worked on in the past as an ecologist. My home is in Richmond, Virginia, and so as you can imagine life is one of transition and movement right now. I love to visit places around the globe and am available fo assignment work.
I believe in the standard "Take only pictures, leave only footprints." I think that nature photography provides an opportunity to "Take time." Time to see, smell, feel, think, and simply immerse oneself into nature. Please take the time to wander around my works, and time to realize that the natural world is truly an endless opportunity for exploration.
Thank you for visiting my work!
